What is Spirituality? I would request all of you to give your views on this. So many times I've asked this question to myself and others but people perceive it differently. Dictionary definitions too can't express this word completely as it has a vast meaning and its depth has yet to be explored.

spirituality in simple word means working on decoding the wisdom soul has known since time immortal. It directly implies knowing purpose of the life...

i will leave here and wait for some more pointers....
In my opinion sprituality is the method to become pure in character and thinking by using all methods of yoga/pranayam and meditation. I really do not know the results of these but as I feel after adopting all these methods one really becomes able to understand spirituality which I feel the almighty wants from a person to become. This is my version but in the absence of any teacher or a guru I am not in a position to explain it in its right way
I would like to quote Osho here :-) I just can not speak when my master has spoken so beautifully....

Spirituality is an inner revolution

Religiousness means the circumference, and spirituality means the center. Religiousness has something of spirituality, but only something - a vague radiation, something like a reflection in the lake of the starry night, of the full moon. Spirituality is the real thing, religiousness is just a by-product. And one of the greatest misfortunes that has happened to humanity is that people are being told to be religious not spiritual. Hence they start decorating their circumference, they cultivate character. Character is your circumference. By painting your circumference, the center is not changed. But if you change the center, the circumference automatically goes through a transformation.

Spirituality is an inner revolution

It certainly affects your behaviour, but only as a by-product. Because you are more alert, more aware, so naturally your action is different, your behaviour has a different quality, a different flavour, a different beauty. If your body is healthy then your lips are red, but you can paint them with lipstick and they will look red - and ugly. People are living with painted faces, wearing masks. These people are called religious. Spirituality belongs to your essential being, and religiousness only to the outermost actions, behaviour, morality. Religiousness is formal, going to the church every Sunday is a social affair.

Spirituality is not morality

Spirituality is not a question of morality, it is a question of vision. Spirituality is not the practicing of virtues - because if you practice a virtue it is no longer a virtue. A practiced virtue is a dead thing, a dead weight. Virtue is virtue only when it is spontaneous, virtue is virtue only when it is natural, unpracticed - when it comes out of your vision, out of your awareness, out of your understanding.

Religion cannot be practiced

Ordinarily religion is thought of as a practice. It is not. That is one of the most fundamental misunderstandings about religion. You can practice non-violence, but you will still remain violent, because your vision has not changed. A greedy person can practice sharing, but the greed will remain the same. Even the sharing will be corrupted by the greed, because you cannot practice anything against your understanding. The real silence arises out of the understanding, "Why am I not silent? Why do I go on creating tensions for myself? Why do I go on getting into miserable patterns? Why do I support my hell?" One starts understanding the "why" of one's hell, and by that very understanding, by and by, without any practicing on your part, you start dropping those wrong attitudes that create misery. Not that you drop them, they simply start disappearing.
Spirituality means finding the answer to the question " Who am I "? and live accordingly with full balanced state of mind
Thank you very much all of you for your views.
spirituality according to me is finding peace n god.whatever touche our soul n helps in finding any one of either is spirituality.......
Hi Shanu , For me spirituality is a way of life , it is there in every facet of life. It is not going to temples , doing satsangs or following some rituals. It is not hurting anybody , being kind , honest and seeing god in every one. You see goodness in all or if somebody is being nasty , look for goodness. You'll find it eventually. Every morning getting up and seeing yourself in the mirror and saying to your self. " nobody can make me happy or unhappy , the power lies in me ". It is on to me as to how I perceive other people. For me this is spirituality , A no blame game , happiness and not causing any pain to anybody. Caste ,creed or the status is nothing, all are equal. My servant is also human and needs help more than my other friends. I hope I have tried to explain my personal take on it and it is always there. You can't be spiritual one time and not so , some other time. All the best for your quest....:)
Very correct Shanu, spirituality is such a vast subject that it cannot be described in few mere words. Different minds have different expressions and definitions for this word, and we may or may not consider it to be right. For me spirituality is something which is directly connected with spirit 'the soul'.The things which we all do soulfully and have no inhibition doing that thing and after completion we are at peace with sense of satisfaction and happiness . And while doing and practicing those things we gain so much of calmness within that we neither get entangled with the materialistic world nor we seek for acquisitive pleasure. Our soul within helps our mind to be like a child who is carefree, far away from the
expansion of crucial sentiments, and living fully in the moment and in the present.
Spirituality is not penance to be performed with closed eyes in some faraway forest or cave, but a way of living to be performed in this world, while interacting with all types of people and facing all circumstances and challenges with courage and composure.Spirituality is the foundation of life and the source of true strength and intelligence.Compassion and concern for one's fellow beings-this was the very core of Swami Vivekananda's concept of spirituality!
nicely expressed. Thanks for sharing

everyone has its own material definition of spirituality.
oh how better it wud have been ,if it was not diffrentiated and...............
spirituality is nothing but another "self identification" with something which one considers holy
and this diffrentiation from material is the root cause of misery, chaos and conflict

and since it is impossible fo us to flush out everything what has been said(saints and ...)
we can never comprehend anything which is living
