Why Bhagwad Gita was given at this time?
Battle of Mahabharta was fought on the cusp of Dwapar Yuga and Kalyuga. Before this time people were already evolved and living a spiritual life. However, people need more direction in kalyuga as they get more influenced by external desires and Indriyan. So God made sure he delivered his message before Kalyuga started.
There are two paths or Margas in life to be followed.
Can we not do any karma?
We are programmed by Universe/Nature to do karma. We cannot not do any karma. Even when we are sitting idle and not doing any Karma, we are thinking and that is why our thoughts are not under control. When we are thinking we are already doing Karma in our thoughts and we get bound by the law of karma.
Doing Karma is better than not doing any karma.
Even God is bound by the Law of Karma and does his Karma. God has access to everything present in this Universe, still he does his Karma and lives as per that because people follow the venerated people. If God would sit and not do any Karma, everyone would follow same and not do any karma. Would expect everything to happen on its own.
What is Nishkam karma and Akarma
When something is done irrespective of the desire of result it is Nishkam Karma. When a person follows Karma Marg, he is doing Nishkam karma
When a person is doing his Karma, however, he realizes that everything is done by one consciousness and he is just a channel, does not hold the ego of doing things, even when he has done that, he has not performed any Karma. Because then everything is done by the consciousness and he is free from the results of that karma. This stage of doing karma but not getting affected by karma is akarma.
When are we not affected by the Law of Karma?
When we perform our actions by being detached from what we are doing by surrendering to God, we are away from good or bad, we are not bound by Karma. Because whatever is happening is done by God, so if you have not done anything then how can you be bound by same. Then it becomes an Akarm.
Why God is not affected by karma as he is doing Karma constantly?
He is performing his Karma by being detached and that is why though is bound by karma he is not getting affected by karma.
Who gets Moksha?
A person who has many good Karmas also does not get Moksha as there has to be a balance of good and bad and become zero. Only a person who truly surrenders to God gets Moksha because then his sin or no sin, everything is surrendered and he has no balance of good or bad. In that case he gets Moksha.
Who are Devas and how are they nurtured?
Hindu Mythology stresses a lot on devas and various energies which surround us. They are nurtured by what we offer to them and the Yagyas we do. In return they fullfill our desires. Even if we do not ask for them, they are fulfilled.
What we offer in Yagayas or on the name of those Devas, helps in prosperity of that deva and in return, we must keep a share of what we earn for those Devas as they are already fulfilling the desires. An animal also makes living for his family. This is where a human is different from an animal. A person who does not keep share for others and his offerings to devas, is in a way stealing their share as he has already earned from devas.
The one who is not following these and blames God, actually is on the path of self destruction.
However, a person who is performing any action with an intention of desire being fulfilled is going away from God as he is attached to results and desires again. So a true Yogi surrenders everything and every desire to God and performs all the actions as divine duties.
Why people commit sin, even when they have knowledge?
Though people have knowledge of good and bad and truth and untruth, their knowledge is covered under the layers of desires. To fulfil those desires they commit sin even after having knowledge. That is the creation of Maya.
How does one control desires and get detached?
Our senses (Indriyaan) are driven by love/hate (Raag or devasha). Mind is stronger than senses and can control senses. Soul is stronger than mind and can control mind. So by understanding the core of soul (Universal oneness of soul), when one lives with the same realisation, can control his mind and then senses. Once the senses are controlled, one is able to control his attachments or desires.
When we understand Universal oneness and we see same God in every being and everything, then we have no space for comparisons, which gives birth to ego, we have no space for hatred or jealousy or any negative emotion because everything is divine and is in divine order and everything what appears as different actually is one. There is the acceptance of divine love in everyone and everything.
When you have desires, you are bound to get attached to results and cannot perform Nishkam Karma. So to achieve this level one needs to control desires first. However, a person who presents that he has controlled desires from outside but is truly not detached from inside, from inside he desires everything, he is living a fake life and is wasting his life.
Who is not bound by Law of Karma?
How does one get detached from body?
Whatever we see we get attached to. Like a mother looks at her baby and gets attached to it. We look at our home and get attached to it. A person does not get attached to something which he has not seen. Generally when we see in the mirror, we think we have seen ourselves. However, the truth is when we look into the mirror, we see our body and when we see our body, we get attached to the body. If we want to get attached to soul and live with the realization of soul, we need to look into soul. Eyes are known as gateway to soul, so when we look into mirror, instead of looking at body we can start looking into own eyes and connect with own soul. Once we reach to the core of soul, we will be able to live with detachment as we would be living with the truth and not illusioned by Maya.
